Flash Back!

As I was browsing through my files, I came across these 2 awesome pictures that had to be from Julie.  This is Julie with the "little boys."   Isn't she hot?  I'm guessing this was taken in 77 or 78.
When I look at this picture it reminds me of 2 little boys that Clarence and Derron have.  Little Stinkers.  I can see where Chomps gets his good looks from.   Seth doesn't fall too far from the tree either!  Thanks for sharing Julie!

Happy 11th Birthday to my FAVORITE boy!

3-22-02.  That's the day I brought this fine lookin' feller into this world.  He was not too happy about geting here and let everyone know.  When Ethan was born, it was my fastest labor.  9 hours.  He has been so much fun to have in our lives.  I feel so blessed to be his mom.  Here is a memory of Ethan when he was younger.  When he was about 6 we had a bunch of pet fish.  One day one of them died.
Ethan:  Mom, one of the fish is dead.
Me: Ok,  Do you remember what kind it was?
Ethan:  I can't remember the name.... but it's kinda like a chimichanga, but it's not a chimichanga at all.
Me:  A chimichanga fish, huh?  What did it look like?
Ethan:  Well, it was brown and white and it's name was Butterfinger.
Me:  Ethan, that's a Molly fish!
Ethan:  Yeah, I know!  A tamale fish!  That's kinda like a chimichanga, right?
This boy always has something funny to say.  And now onto the Party!
Here is Ethan when he got up on his Birthday.  I love how my kids love to sleep in the living room.  why did I buy them beds again?  I shoulda just bought them a couch for their room.
Today was only a half day of school since it was parent teacher conference.  So we decided to have his friends come over for lunch and cake and ice cream.  He invited 12 boys.  I think they all made it plus some.  His FAVORITE surprise of all was Jaden Mulder got to come party with him!  Jaden and Ethan have been friends for several years, and a little more than a year ago the Mulders moved away.  Such a sad time.  BUT we have kept in touch and the Mulders were on Spring break, so it worked out great!
For the cake I was so happy when Ethan told me he just wanted a simple cake for his birthday.  Whew.  Since I was still on cruthes, I had made 4 dozen cupcakes in the last 2 days, I was all too happy to comply with his wishes.
Make a wish!
 Fire Power!
After lunch, cake and ice cream, I attempted a group shot. With THAT many boys running around, it was hard to get them to all be together again.  I tried anyway.

And I had to do it again when we found a couple more boys who made it in late.
Ethan opened his cool gifts, and I must say, this was the COOLEST idea for wrapping paper ever!  Inside was a box of swedish fish... which happen to be his fav. candy.  Awesome gift, Mulder.
Ethan had been asking for this movie FOREVER!  I told him he could rent it for his birthday, but since it's so funny and a clean movie, I figured we could just add it to the collection.
It was a crazy afternoon, but so well worth it because I got to spend some time with the Mulder family.  We miss that family!
All in all Ethan made out like a bandit.  He got some cool gifts, including a cooking set for when he goes camping, and money.  Money is pretty important to Ethan, because he's saving for a Kindle, just like the one his sisters have.

Here are a few of Ethan's favorite things this year:  MONEY, His motorcycle, 4 wheelers, legos, Undercover Wii game, teasing his sisters, hunting, and fishing.
Accomplishments:  Got his Weblos award, won a pinewood derby, recieved his arrow of light, went javelina hunting, and survived another year.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Karly!

Today my baby turns 3.  It's hard to believe that my baby is growing up!  She has been such a joy to have in our lives.  I just can't believe how fast she is growing up!  I was going to post my top 3 favorite pictures, but I just couldn't settle on just 3, so here are a few of Karly through the years.

Birth.  Ahhh, sweet birth pictures.  Karly was born at 9:48pm weighing a whopping 7lbs. 5 oz  She had a bit of a struggle at the beginning and had an extended stay in the NICU and a hospital stay after that for pnemonia.  However, since then she has been in pretty good health!
This outfit that Karly is wearing was hand made by one of his patients.  What am amazing gift! I have never met the maker of such a beautiful cration, and  I will always treasure this one.  I am so grateful for the generousity of others...
Mmmm, who can't smile on these next 2?  I love the fat chubby cheeks and the cookie covered face.
Karly always has a smile for us.  I love her little twinkle in her eye and her cute little laughter.

This is Karly's favorite dress.  I will be sad when she outgrows it.  Ugh, she is getting so big!

This one just makes my day.  I love her quirky style and her happy go lucky attitude.

And finally, here she is on the morning of her birthday.  Happy Birthday Karly!
Here are a few of Karly's favorite things:  Team Umi Zoomi, babies, blocks, the kitty, and her pink boots.  Did I mention that she's OBSESSED with Umi Zoomi?

Saaay Braces!

On the 13th of this month I took Kaitlyn to see her favorite dentist. We all love the dentist! He also happens to be the cutest dentist I've ever seen. :) Kaitlyn was SO excited for this day to come. Sleep didn't come easy for he the night before. She had been anticipating this day for years. The day she would finally get braces. Here is a picture of her before braces.
Why she was so excited I don't know.  Ok, I guess I do know.  I remember when I got baces on for my 16th birthday it was so fun and exciting.  Ok, it really wasn't fun or exciting, but I guess when you're still 13 and your dentist is your dad it still is exciting.
I checked Kaitlyn out of school, along with her cousins Sharon and Mary who happened to be getting their teeth checked by their favorite dentist too.  We signed in and waiting for our name to be called.  It was only about 5 minutes, but to Kaitlyn it felt like hours!
Finally it was time.  After a good cleaning of her teeth, her dad put the guard on her mouth.  We had a lot of fun trying to get her to frown an talk with this thing on.  Karly did not like that in Kaitlyn's mouth.  She kept saying that Kaitlyn was a scary monster and didn't want any part of this process.
Next came the brackets that would help evenly space the braces on.  Karly said she looked like an alligator.  You be the judge.
After that is was smooth sailing.  Wire and rubber bands were added and the guard was removed.  Purple and orange were the first colors she chose:  Purple because it's her favorite color, and orange because that was Clarissa's favorite color.  Aww, how thoughtful!

Everyone say BRACEFACE!

Happy Hiking and my 2 new best friends

Sometime in September I noticed my left hip was starting to bother me.  I had been running a lot more, hiking a lot more, and sometimes carrying some heavy packs out of canyons full of elk, so  I just brushed it off and thought I had just pulled a muscle or something, but it soon became very annoying.  It hurt to hike, it hurt to do zumba, heck, it even hurt to roll over in bed!  I had tried to rest it and lay off of some of my exercises, but after returning to activity the pain would come back.  Finally I had HAD enough!  I called and made an appointment with a dr. that specialized in joint and muscle pain.  It would be several weeks before I was going to be seen, and jevelina hunting season was right around the corner, so I continued to hike and take some pain relievers.  Finally I was able to get in to see the doc.  He did some tests and concluded I should probably have an MRI.  I thought is was a torn muscle, and he seemed to agree, so he said I could continue my exercise program, but stop when I reached my limit.  The next week went well.  I ran a couple of times on the eliptical and just kinda ran through the pain.  It would hurt right at the beginning, feel really good during, and hurt like crazy afterward. I did zumba a couple of times, but I still coudn't do squats and other movements that required hips and quick movement.  But I did them.
Finally the day of the MRI came.  I had been feeling a little better, and I even was debating on not getting the scan done, but I went.  I was not prepared for the type of MRI they did.  I was told to not eat before I went in, and that I was going to have dye injected, but for whatever reason I didn't put two and two together and come up with HOW the dye was going to be injected.  With a needle.. in my joint!
First the area was numbed and then it was to be 1 quick stick into the joint.  It doesn't seem to be that easy with me.  It took 5 PAINFUL times to get the needle in the joint.  I then layed on the scanner for about 30 minutes while they took pictures of my left hip area.
After the MRI the doc told me I would prob. have a lot of pain because of the whole dye process.  He wasn't kidding!  It was a painful next couple of days.  I felt crippled and hobbled around a lot.  By the weekend I was feeling a little better and SO READY to get out and enjoy the nice weather.  I don't like to sit around.  I like to be busy and active.
Friday Clarence and I went to Young area to check his game cameras and do some hiking, and since the doc said it was ok to exercise, I was ready!  After a 2 hour truck ride he hopped on the quad for what would be another hour and a half.  We werent in any hurry, and the animals were out.  It was a great ride.  Soon we arrived at our destination for our first hike.  These hikes we would be going on were not new to me, and I have done them several times during the last year with Clarence.  The first one was going to be about 1 mile down.  Half way down was the game camera, but we went further down the canyon to see a beautiful waterfall that was going full force with all the moisture they had recieved the week before.  It was so beautful down in the canyon.  After spending about an hour in the canyon we made our way back up.  My hip was complaining, but it was doable.  We rode the quad to our next destination, stopping frequently as we spotted deer and elk.  The 2nd hike would be about 3 miles to the bottom.  The going on this one was a lot harder.  Since all the canyons were full of water we had to cross the water frequently, often jumping over rocks.  At first it was fun, but about half way down it was no longer fun for my hip. It was really starting to bother me, but I was outdoors and loving it.  We  stopped after about half way down to check the first game cameral  While we were viewing the pictures a herd of elk came tromping through the trees about 30 yards from us.  One stopped and stared at us, but the group didn't seem to sense we were of any danger to them.  It was so cool. We watched them as they made their way down the canyon, through the water, and then finally up the other side.
We finally made it to the last game camera.  It was so hot, and a quick foot soaking was called for.  The water was SO COLD!  But it felt heavenly on my tired feet.  We knew we had a long hike out the canyon, so we started on our way.  It was a lot harder for me to keep up.  I had reached my limit.  I kept falling down and it seemed like I couldn't pick up my feet!  I didn't know what my problem was.  It was a long hike out, and by the time we got to the top I was done for.  Thankfully I have a patient husband.
We set off on the quad once again to the truck.  We once again stopped several times to watch the deer and elk on the mountainside or on the trail ahead.  It was just an awesome.  By the time we got back to the truck though, I was pretty wore out and very sore.  It was all I could do to get off the quad and hoist myself into the truck.
All weekend long I was pretty sore.  I was very frusterated that my muscle pain wasn't going away, and it seemed to start to get worse again.  Monday I went back to the doc to get the results of the MRI.  I was shocked at what he said.  Here is a scan of an MRI that is similiar to mine, but other hip.
A hip stress fracture.
He casually asked me how my week was and asked if I had been resting.  Um, no.  I told him everything I had been doing the past couple of weeks, and apparently he didn't agree with my activities.  I reminded him that he was the one that told me I could still exercise, but he said that was BEFORE he found out I had a hip fracture.  He was as shocked as I was.  He told me that everything I had been doing was exactly what NOT to do with a hip fracture.  Then he threw in the bomb shell.  The treatment for this kind of fracture was NO weight on my hip, NO exercise, NO walking, NO anything but rest and taking it easy.   That's like telling a fish he can't swim! After being thrown that curveball I asked him why that type of treament was necessary.  He went on to explain that this was a fracture in the early stages, with some bone deterrioration and left untreated, could turn into a major crack, which would result in surgery and weak bones and then possible hip replacement.  Oh .  That's why.   So for the next 3 weeks I have 2 new best friends.

If I'm really good and the fracture heals and the bone starts growing healthy again, I will be able to start walking again after my next visit, or I may have to use a cane.  Then after 3 more weeks I can start SLOWLY my activities.  This is really  hard for me!  But I know it will be worth it if it means I can make a complete recovery.  Here's to a long 6 weeks, and now maybe I can catch up on a couple of blogs.  Hopefully I won't catch up on  all the weight I have worked so hard to keep off.

It's Derby Day!

Every year the boys ages 8-10 get to participate in the pinewood derby.  This was Ethan's last year.  The first year he wored really hard and had someone with a lot of knowledge show him how to make a great derby car.  Well, half way through the wheels bacame loose and the car began to wobble.  He still ended up with a 3rd place, but it was not what he was after.  Last year his dad and him worked hard once again, and designed a great car that took first, but it was such a close finish it could have, and probably should have gone to the other boy.
This year Ethan was determined to go out in style and once again win the derby.  Clarence had been preoccupied with other things, so the car was put off until the last minute to build.  It was carefully designed, sanded, and painted the week of the derby.  Friday night very late Clarence put the first shuny coat on the car, and was planning of finishing in the morning.  The next morning Clarence woke early and put one more coat on. Karly had been up most of the night with a high fever, so I was still lounging around in my pj's.
I asked Ethan, what time is the derby?  He thought it was like at 10 or 11.  I looked at my phone as saw sometime during the night I recieved a text that said the derby started at 8:00am.  I then looked at the clock.  Panic.  It was 8:04 and the car was still no where near ready to race!  Clarence and Ethan raced around the house and finished drying the car with a blow dryer. The scout shirt was left hanging in the closet, and I was just thankful Ethan remembered to change his pants!  They ran up to the church just in time to weigh the car just as the races were starting.  It was still tacky and the wheels were sticking to the paint, so Clarence put graphite on the wheels where they were sticking, and the car was soon covered in silver  graphite specks and fingerprints.  Clarence thought for sure this little car was going to be lucky to even win 1 race.
Ethan put his car up on the track and let it go.  Clarence just sat and hoped it would not lose too badly.  It didn't.  It won, and it won big!   Both Ethan and Clarence were shocked!  The next race the car went up on the track and the same silent prayer was offered.  Once again the car won!  Again and again it continued to perform well.  Unbelievable! First Place!  Ethan couldn't be more estatic.

I cheated and photo shopped a scout shirt on Ethan since he forgot his.
This is a picture of his whole pack.

I am so proud of my boy and his accomplishments.  He worked hard with his dad, and together they built a great car, but more important, they built a great memory.
Another great thing that happened was Ethan received his Weblos badge, along with his arrow of light and serveral other awards.  This was not to his liking, and it took more than gentle persuasion to get him to finish before his birthday, but he did it!
After the derby, Ethan and his little buddy Seth went with Aunt Ju Ju to celebrate his win.  I'm so glad he has a good friend/cousing to hang out with.  What started out as a crazy day turned into a fun filled great day.  Derby days may be over for us, but they will just be starting for Ethan's little buddy.  Get ready Seth!

Javelina Huntin' with my boys

The last week of February Clarence and I packed up the trailer, pulled Ethan from school, and took off for a couple of days of javelina hunting.  We had gone scouting the week before and didn't see any javelina, but we were determined to see what we could do.  So we went.  A storm had come in that week, and the weather was cold!  The week before the high was in the 70's.  Friday it was in the 40's.  We got up early in the morning and started glassing a mountain top.  While looking around for some wildlife we discovered that we were surrounded by lots and lots of broken pottery.  Upon further investigation we decided we were on top of some indian ruins of sorts.  Ethan went on a pottery hunt and found an arrowhead and some realy cool big pieces of pottery.  A neat find!  The weather turned windy after that, so we headed off the mountain and decided to go hiking.  We spent the day hiking and following old tracks, but never found what we were looking for.  We hiked until we hit a spot that we couldn't go anymore  because of a beautiful big waterfall.  It was a neat hike.
That evening we decided to drive around for awhile to find different places to see javelina. We found a great spot to glass from and decided to come back in the morning.
The next morning we went to our glassing location and within about 1/2 an hour found what we were looking for.   Yeah!  Finally!  The only problem is it was a LONG ways away and we would have to drive around the other side of the mountain.  We spent another 1/2 an hour making a game plan and figuring the best way to get over there.
We parked our truck and soon set off into the desert to find our javelina.  We hiked ALL morning long without any success.  We could tell that we were close, but we just could never seem to catch them.  Finally we decided we would head back to the truck and regroup.  After dropping our stuff off at the truck, Clarence and I climbed this hill to glass back into the area we had just covered for one more look.  Within 10 minutes I found them!  I couldn't believe it!  They were RIGHT where we just came from!  It was almost 4, so we decided to give it 1 more try.  Clarence and I picked up our bows and Ethan grabbed his gun.  We ran as fast as we dared through the desert, over the stream (which I fell in YET AGAIN!) an up the hill to where we spotted them last.  They were gone.  Are you kidding me?  We hiked around for a while and FINALLY Clarence spotted them again.  We ran down the hill to get ino position, but Clarence was in front of us and those sneaky little boogers either heard us or smelled us. Clarence was only 20 yards from them, but he wanted Ethan or myself to get a shot. He yelled at us to get ready, but there was no time.  We never saw them until one was flying right past us.  Clarence could still see the rest of the group, so he ran over and grabbed the gun to get a shot off.  But it was too late.  Javelina may have terrible eye site, but that doesn't seem to stop them from running away very fast.  We hiked around for awhile to see if we could find them, but we never did.  Ethan was a little disapointed we didn't get a shot, but sometimes that's jsut how it goes.  We went back to camp and loaded up.  We may have left that hunt empty handed, but the memories I have of spending time with my hunny and my boy will always be with me.  Watching and listening to Ethan was well worth the 15 miles I put on my shoes and the cactus I am still pulling out of my arms and legs.  I love that kid, and I'm so thankful I get to be his mom.

7 weeks and 8 years

One of my favorite things about having my family visit is cousin time!!!!!  Emlee and her family stayed the weekend at my house.  This was the best news my kids could have gotten.  They love the Campbells.  Heck, I love the Campbells!  Ashlyn and Karly are only 7 weeks   apart.  They love being together.  Sometimes they love fighting together too!  But mostly they just love eachother.  The first night Emlee and I snuck in their room to check on them after the fell asleep.  Here is what we found.
Mmmm, are they scrumptious looking?  I love these litte girls.  They are so lucky to grow up with cousins their same age.   They are also lucky because they are both our babies.  I can't believe they will be 3 soon.  Ugh.  They grow up so fast!
These girls were pretty much inseperable this weekend.  They played with dolls, rode bikes, and watched Umizoomi together.  They drew pictures together, ate together, threw tantrums together, and even smashed fingers together.
On the last morning together I gave the girls matching shirts and took a couple of picts. Here are a few of my favorites:

Not to be outdone, Emlee and I just happened to be wearing the same shirts and jeans, sporting our all too familar stay at home mom hair style.
I love my sister, and even though we didn't get along when we were young, I'm so thankful I have such a great relationship with my baby sis now.  When we visit eachother we do everything together.  We eat together.  We watch Psych together.  We laugh together. We cook together.  Sometimes we cry together.  But mostly we just love being together.
7 weeks or 8 years, I'm thankful we have eachother!

Left Right Center

We play a lot of games when the family gets together.  Usually someone finds a great game, shares it with the group, and if we really like it, we will change the rules to meet our competitive and crazy ways.  Usually Nolan is the one who comes up with these rules.  And like dummys, we usually go along with his ideas.  Left Right Center was no exception.  This game is the simpliest game, and the object is to be the one wih the most chips, however we play a little different.  If you are the last one with a chip, you LOSE!  It started out the Loser had to eat or drink something that was not meant to be eaten.  Some of our favorites are Ice Cream sandwiches with the ice cream scooped out and replaced with miracle whip, seasoning salt, and tobasco sauce, or perhaps a drink that involved tuna.  Mmm, yummy.  The posibilities were endless!  Usually it ends very badly for the loser, and it usually results in the morning hating the site and smell of anything.  And usually it involves Darwin losing.  Bad.  My favorite part of the game!  Since our stomachs tend to remember better than we do about the torture we give it, we have to change the stakes a little to keep everyone wanting to play.  This weekend was no different.  I only have 1 picture to share, but it's a doozy.
This is the result of new stakes.   Every time you lost a round, the winner got to write a letter on your face a letter.  The first was an L.  Next was an O, followed by S, E, and R.  When you had all 5 letters on your face then you were out.  Oh, did I forget to mention that it was with Red lipstick?  Awesome.  And this yet another reason why I love my amily so much.  Nothing wrong with a little bit of sibling rivarly!

What a Whirl of a Weekend

This past weekend was awesome!  Last weekend with all of us getting together apparently wasn't enough, so we had to come up with a few more events to get us all together again.  Friday we got snow. Altough I normally love the snow, I'm not a fan of it when so many of our family members are traveling in it. Kevin and Chris were the first to arrive via I 17. They said they passed 10 cars/diesels off the road. Some were cars that had just slid off the road, and others weren't as lucky.
Emlee and Darwin came a different route 10 minutes later, and reported icy conditions, but still passable. Nolan and Kenia left as soon as Nolan got off work, closely followed by Clarence who was at the Dental Convention in Phx. They also chose I17, but weren't as lucky as Kevin's family. After being in stand still traffic for nearly an hour at 2 seperate accidents, they finally made it through.  It nearly took them 5 hours! Shorty after that the road was shut down because of so many accidents and icy conditions.
AJ was last to leave the valley, and because I 17 was shut down, he had to go through Mesa.  After getting to Payson he found out the road to Heber was also shut down, so he had to go the only alternate route though Winslow.  Luckily he finally made it here around 11.  What a crazy drive for all!
So what was so special that had all our family from down south heading up north through crazy weather?  2 things.  First Tilynn went through the temple to recieve her endowments.  It's been a long time coming, and I am so proud of her for her decision to go to the temple.  It was also Brian's first time back to the temple in several years.  They both have made big changes in their lives to be able to get to this point.  It was a beautiful thing to see them in the temple.  I haven't seen Brian so happy in a long time.  Ty has been a great blessing in his life, as well as ours.  We love Aunt Ty and all she has done for us.  She also happens to be Karly's favorite babysitter!
The other special event that happened that day immediatly followed Ty's endowments.  Carol and Eldon were lucky enough to add 4 little kids to their family making their total come to 8.  It was the neatest experience to see them kneel across the alter with their 4 younger ones surrounding them as they completed the Larsen family.  Robert, Sharon, and Mary were also permitted into the sealing room to watch this special occasion.   The spirit was felt very strongly there, and it was just awesome to see them so happy to be sealed for eternity as a family.  The room was packed with family and friends to wittness it.  Just an amazing day.
After our afternoon in the temple we all went back to mom's house for dinner.  We had quite the house full as you could imagine, with kids running everywhere, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
I love my family, all 48 of us!

Baby Blessing Extravaganza

Last weekend the whole Martineau family  made the trek down the mountain to Phx. for not 1, but 2 amazing baby blessings!  Kevin an Chris had their baby #3 blessed, Eliza.  She is such a cutie.  She also happens to be grandchild #30 for my mom and dad!  The other baby is Lindsey and AJ's baby boy Terron, which also happens to be GREAT grandchild #1 for my mom and dad.  So you can see why we all had to go!
On Saturday we all gathered at Nolan's house for a delicious dinner in his very cool backyard.  We had ribs, burgers, steak, chicken, hot dogs, brats.... the whole 9 yards for this momentous occassion!  Nolan owns 2 houses, and Lindsey and AJ rent 1 from Nolan, which, conveniently,  happens to be right next door.   Nolan has done a lot of remodeling of his backyard, and he did a fantastic job!   After dinner we played a couple of games before all heading our seperate ways for the evening.  My family stayed at Nolan's hosue, and that night we watched Here Comes the Boom.  It was good!  And Clarence even stayed awake for the whole thing, so I KNOW it was good!
The next morning we all went to Terron's baby blessing at 9:30.  It was a beautiful blessing, and it was so neat to see SO MANY in the circle for the baby blessing.  Sacrament meeting was loud, but what do you expect with that many little kids running around?  After the sacrament we all took off and made the hour drive to Kevin's ward.  Once again we filled the chapel.  Our family took up 5 benches.  Eliza wore a baby blessing dress that has been around in our family for many years.  It was pretty cool.
After our 2nd sacrament meeting we all gathered at Kevin's house for some yummy dinner.  The kids played outside.  The weather was so pretty, but then again it usually is in March in Arizona City.  I love having a big family.  We haven't all been together for awhile, so it was nice to sit around the table and just talk and joke around for awhile.
Around 4 my family called it quits and headed for home.  My kids wanted to go through the tunnel, so we went the "scenic" route home:  through Globe.  It was a little longer, but it was a nice drive.   Thanks to Team Umizoomi and a small TV, it was a very quiet trip home.  Karly got a couple of movies for her early birthday present, so she was happy.  While in Phx. the kids got to buy new pairs of shoes and they were pretty happy with that.  Clarence saw deer on the way home and he was happy about that.  I had a great weekend with my kids and my family, so you guess it, I was one happy gal too!

Cards

Yesterday we celebrated one of my sister in laws 50th B-day.  50!  I can hardly believe it!  She looks amazing for her age, let me tell you.   it was a fun evening shared by many of her friends and family members.  It was a surprise, and I think she was surprised.
So in honor of her special day I made her a special card.  Simple, yes, but she loved it.  I embossed Happy Birthday on the paper and used the cricut to cut out a couple of things.  I added the red ribbon and attached the jewels.

The inside I just found online and printed it off.  I love making cards for my family and friends, and I hope they enjoy them as much as I enjoy making them!
